WHAT I DO ON A DETOX NIGHT

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It’s Saturday night and I’m drinking red wine on my own in my pjs, scrolling Instagram and watching trashy TV in bed. And actually, considering I have spent the last few Saturdays being a social butterfly, waking up to a kebab and a dirty hangover, it feels real good to be doing absolutely nothing. I’ve had a weird week; a weird month actually and I’m physically and emotionally drained. I’ll be in Thailand this time next week and as my bank balance is not looking so healthy, I have a week to get rid of the beer belly and the entire world seems to be away on holiday; it’s the perfect opportunity to run a bath, find the soundtrack that is spot on, clean my mind and sort my life out.

We all relax in completely different ways and I reckon I’ll be basic bitchin’ this evening. But, in case you do need some inspiration to step away from everything, take a break and spend a bit of ‘me-time’ then here ya go you cuties.

To get you truly in the mood of detox, you need cute lighting and a Taylor swift album, preferably her country days way back before the squad. Basically essential in my eyes.

You need to be clean. You can’t detox with 4 day old dry shampoo’d hair and unshaven legs. You’ve gotta feel like a goddess so go treat yourself to the most epic bath time. In the week I do get lazy, we’re all guilty of it but take the time to do the whole ‘shabang’. Exfoliate, Cleanse, Moisturise blah blah blah.

In prep for Thailand I have been attached to my gradual tan, so tan yourself up and lay around naked for a while. Our bodies need a break from being strapped in all the time. I’m not constantly naked FYI but this is a genuine tip.

Put down the phone and pick up a book, escape somewhere else for one night. No political debates on Facebook, no stalking, no crying over Instagram quotes. Get your head in a book or invest in a hobby that doesn’t involve technology. My favourite thing to step away from everything is adult colouring and as much as people still laugh at me when I whack out the pencils, it’s a god-send in keeping me calm.

There’s two types of detox nights. Nights with green tea and a bowl of berries and dark chocolate (absolute dream at the minute btw) and nights in that involve wine and ice cream.

I’m not one for the gym but I do try to do my bit and squat whilst I’m brushing my hair or spontaneously start doing ab exercises in bed. Probably achieving nothing but it does make me feel a little more like I’m doing something good with my life. If anyone can ever understand that without laughing.

So after a pamper and an attempt to exercise, sometimes I might pour my heart out in a diary, put on a feel good film and get cosy. My eye mask has been my right arm this month but I always make sure the last thing I see is something positive. Such a hippy after country music and a mug of green tea but you get my point, don’t go to sleep feeling sad. Onward and Upwards ay babes.

Detoxing this week has been a dream but I’d love to know how you wind down and of course, for anyone that has felt like they haven’t had a second to think, take some time out this month to make yourself feel good; make you feel like you.
